Coldest Winter in Brisbane Since 2009: Global Warming or Just a Blip?
According to news reports and weather updates, June 2025 has brought the coldest winter Brisbane has seen since 2009. It made me pause. For years, we have been told the globe is warming. So how do we explain this sudden chill?
Is Brisbane the odd one out in a warming world? Or are we seeing something more complex?
It gets even more confusing when you hear phrases like “global warming leads to global cooling.” It almost sounds like a punchline.
We have been told for years that global warming means hotter temperatures, rising seas, and melting ice caps. Now, when it gets unusually cold, the explanation suddenly changes — we are told that global warming can also cause extreme cold. Really? It feels like no matter what the weather does, it is somehow used as proof of the same theory.
For the average person just trying to make sense of it, this shifting explanation does not make things clearer — it only adds to the confusion and makes you question what to believe anymore.
We were told to expect warmer days, rising seas, and more heat. Instead, we are pulling out extra blankets, and wondering if the heater will survive the month.
So whom do we believe? The scientists? The weather? Our own shivering bones?
I do not claim to have the answers. I just find it odd. Perhaps we need to stop treating climate as a one-direction story. Maybe it is not as simple as hot equals warming and cold equals denial. But in a world flooded with self-declared experts, opinions, and predictions — it is only natural to be confused.
For now, I will keep scratching my head… and looking for my winter socks.
